Ziyad set up a small book-sharing shelf at his family’s home in Madinah. He wrote the titles on cards and arranged them alphabetically. When Yara arrived, she wanted a story about the sea but knew no title. Ziyad shuffled the cards, unable to help her quickly.
They sat together and read the short book descriptions. After finding the story she wanted, Ziyad drew a wave on a card for the sea topic. He added simple symbols for space, friendship and nature, writing the topic names too so nobody had to rely only on pictures.
His aunt tried the new index, finding one book by topic and another by title. Ziyad kept both ways and added a card asking visitors what they enjoyed reading. By evening, he cared less about how neatly the books stood and more about each friend leaving with a story they wanted.
