Rawan spread her map across the breakfast table. She had drawn a route through a nearby garden in AlBaha, with a star at the finish. “We’ll get there first!” she told her sister. Her sister picked up a sketchbook. “Will we have time to sit?”
On their family outing, they reached a bench beneath a tree. Rawan wanted to keep going, but her sister stopped to sketch the leaves’ shadow. Rawan sat beside her for a moment and noticed that the shadow looked like a tiny boat.
Rawan took out her pencil and added the bench to her map. She asked everyone which stops they liked, drawing a water stop and another place to sit. When some chose to head back with her mother, she gave them a copy of the return route.
At home, Rawan moved the star from the finish to the bench. Under it she wrote, “Here we found a boat made of shadow.” Her sister smiled and drew a sail. Now they had a keepsake of an outing everyone could enjoy at their own pace.
